Wollongong startup improving road safety

How a Wollongong startup is improving road safety

The Illawarra Connection showcased three Wollongong startups based at iAccelerate at its annual President’s Lunch in June.

Among the startups showcased was V-Daq which is doing pioneering work in precision position and motion technologies for motor vehicles.
The focus of the business is safety and tailoring products around automated crash detection and reporting as well as advanced augmented crash reconstruction over the cloud.

V-Daq products can provide any vehicle with high precision location and motion sensing capabilities.

Co-founder Rylan Kolb said V-Daq said he and fellow founder Paul Fenech started the business when they were still at university.

“Essentially V-Daq is an intelligent transport company.

‘We started off by developing a system that would detect when a vehicle has been in a car accident. It could then alert rescue services and mapping services who could use that data to help reduce the time to respond for emergency services as well as route traffic around that accident”.

The two entrepreneurs took that idea and evolved the growing business at iAccelerate.

“What we have been developing over the past two years is essentially a cloud based system that enables full data access online. It can provide information on how people are driving their vehicles for insurers. To helping road managers and local governments look at the surface of roads. And things like smart infrastructure integration”.

Mr Kolb said any vehicle on the road has the ability to have intelligence and connectivity.

“We are continuously developing online solutions with partnerships and increasing the value for our customers. To enable that we have developed the first intelligent transport tag that is able to be retrofitted into any vehicle to provide precision accuracy on location as well as motion analytics.

Enabling complete data analytics from the vehicle providing telematics distributed throughout the cloud based system to certain parties. It allows local businesses, governments as well as other consumers to get that data and utilise it to benefit everyone”.

Mr Kolb said V-Daq is presently acquiring more customers and establishing more partnerships to increase the value of information and improve its global reach.
